We pour pool decks at 4-inch minimum, slope away from the coping for drainage, and finish with a slip-resistant texture by default - broom, salt, or stamped depending on the look you want.

For patios extending off existing slabs, we doweling tie the new pour to the old to prevent differential settlement at the joint. The boring detail that prevents future cracks.
